Remember that this is beta software and there will be <del>blood</del> bugs.

Notes:

There is no documentation available (yet.) As beta testing progresses I will work on documentation.

After unzipping and uploading the archive to your server, you will need to configure the database (sml_schema.sql) and config file (config.inc.php)

ALL SUPPORT REQUESTS SHOULD BE ASKED IN THE FORUM. Suggestions, bugs, questions, feedback, etc. sent to me via email will not be answered. I will do my best to answer them in the forum.

I will be setting up a thread in the forum that will remain pinned that will list known SMTP settings of popular mail servers (e.g. Gmail, hotmail, ISPs etc.).

Enjoy!

Blacklisting in SML2 is mostly the same as it was in the previous version. The utilities section however has been greatly improved. On the main utilities page, you can view the contents of your SML configuration file. From there you can go to the SMTP diagnostics, IMAP diagnostics, SML logs, or your RSS page

The SMTP diagnostics helps you determine the proper settings to use should you want to use an SMTP server instead of your server’s built-in mail application (e.g. sendmail). I will maintain a post in the forum that lists all the known good SMTP settings for the larger hosting companies and mail servers (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). IMAP diagnostics is useful if you want to configure bounce checking. Since bounce checking needs to be able to look inside a mailbox, IMAP diagnostics helps you determine the proper settings to use in order to properly configure this option. Finally, SML logs will show you any issues it encounters while the RSS feed shows you the link and feed for your archives.

The next blog posting here will be the announcement of the availability of downloading SML2 beta.

We are proud to announce that KillBot Professional 2, an enterprise-class strength CAPTCHA solution is now available. KillBot Professional, the web’s original Flash CAPTCHA, builds upon the strengths of KillBot to create a truly dynamic form of authentication. Even stronger than the image-based version, KillBot Professional uses Flash to constantly keep the security code in some form of motion so that humans can easily read it while computer’s can’t. KillBot Professional generates over 65 MILLION codes, not counting the variations created via the various Flash effects. It’s so good it’s in use by the United States Federal Government.

In this release we have completely overhauled the logic and made security our primary focus. It’s now impossible to derive the code being generated from the KillBot source files as the logic that generates the code doesn’t exist with the Flash movie. We’ve also added many different Flash effects that obfuscate the code enough to make it virtually impossible for computers to discern the code, yet easy enough for humans to read. Now characters can fade, rotate, move, blur, and more.

Note that with the release of KillBot Professional 2, we also have updated KillBot Professional with Audio.

After months of developing a new look and layout for NotOneBit we are happy to debut our new home. Notice anything different? We’ve updated our look and focused on the work that we’ve been doing for our clients, which involved custom JavaScript (mainly jQuery) and PHP/MySQL. The look of our site was beginning to show its age and was in desperate need of being updated, especially considering that our business is web design and development (sometimes you find yourself so wrapped up in doing work for others that you neglect your own site). We hope you enjoy the new look and focus of NotOneBit and welcome any feedback you have.

It is with a touch of sadness that I am announcing the end of life for CafeScripts. As of September 31, 2008 CafeScripts will no longer be sold and as of October 31, 2008 CafeScripts will no longer be supported. Nearly five years ago I set out to develop a way for web site owners to showcase the items that they designed to sell on CafePress on their own web site. Until that point, anyone that designed an item to sell on CafePress was limited to displaying it on CafePress’ web site. As if it wasn’t bad enough that CafePress already took a cut of what you sold, you had to hand over your web traffic to them too. CafeScripts filled that void by allowing web site owners to display their wares on their own site with many customization options. Sadly, CafePress never released a comprehensive API that allowed developers a way to fully exploit their service and developers relied upon complex (and often messy) data retrieval methods which occasionally were stymied by changes to CafePress’ site. While I am proud of developing CafeScripts, the time has come to move on to new projects and devote my time to other challenges.
